Kyogen
Kyogen represents a wellspring for traditional Japanese performing arts and, as such, it has had tremendous influence on Kabuki and other arts that developed later. Kyogen, which developed together with Noh, is often performed in the intervals between Noh plays. Though Kyogen is performed on the Noh stage, unlike Noh, masks are seldom used and dialogue is the central part of the comical performances. Both the Kyogen stories and performances tend to be realistic and easy to understand. (The Complete Guide to Traditional Japanese Performing Arts: Kodansha International Ltd.)
