Passport and Visa:Every foreign visitor entering Japan must have a valid passport. Visitors from countries whose citizens must have visa should apply to a Japanese consular office or diplomatic mission in their respective country.

Customs:Japanese Customs are fairly lenient, allowing you to in items necessary for person use. Duty-free items are restricted to 3 bottles of liquor; 400 cigarettes or 100 cigars, 2 ounces of perfume; gifts and souvenirs other than the above whose total market value does not exceed \200,000. Firearms, other types of weapon, and narcotics are strictly prohibited.
Climate:The temperature in Nagoya during the period of 41 ISCEV ranges between 10 degrees centigrade and 18 degrees centigrade.
Banking: Only Japanese yen is acceptable at regular stores and restaurants. US dollars and major currencies, however, are easily exchangeable at most local banks and major hotels. Business hours of most banks are 9:00-15:00 (Mon-Fri). All banks are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Traveler's Checks and Credit Cards : Traveler's checks are accepted only by leading banks and major hotels in principal cities, and the use of traveler's checks in Japan is not as popular as in some other countries. VISA, Diners Club, MasterCard, American Express, and JCB cards are widely accepted at hotels, department stores, shops, restaurants and nightclubs.
Tipping: Tipping is not required anywhere in Japan, even in hotels, restaurants or taxi cabs.
Electrical Appliances: Japan use a 100-volt supply for electrical appliances. The frequency of this supply is 60Hz in western Japan including Nagoya.
Shopping: Business hours of most department stores are from 10:00-19:00. They are open on Sundays and national holidays, but closed on either Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday. Business hours for retail shops differ, but most operate from 10:00 to 20:00 and are open on Sunday and national holidays. Underground shopping centers are well developed and most buildings are connected by an underpass.
